The De Payens, and its core High-Impact CQB Module, was designed on the request of kavalieres of the House of Stone to supplement more conventional line chassis such as the Orchis and Tagetes in Baronic service - a role in which it has served admirably well through 5016u. Capable of shielding smaller chassis behind it by dint of overlapping, armored plate and quick-response haptics over stature alone, the De Payens typically takes on the role of a command unit for Baronic linebreakers, shepherding a lance of lighter frames directly into the thickest combat. Such has earned it a reputation for being one of the preferred mechs for hot-blooded scions and glory-seekers, though in the hands of a true master, the De Payens is elevated to be the veritable linchpin of an entire mechanized assault. High-licensure De Payens equipment allows for full command and control suite enmeshment, inspiring one’s allies to feats of heroism and protecting them from harm through explosive discouragement… though, of all the equipment bundled with the license, perhaps the weapons tempered in the same forges that made blades for the ancient Karrakin royal guards provide the strongest draw.

It is, after all, into those ancestral shoes a De Payens pilot steps: inheritor of the legacy of the armored, plate-wearing knights and their House back-banners forever immortalized in paintings, tapestry, and song. Possessor of the memories of an age long past, modernized to fit with the new.

Such is what the original commissioners would have spoken of, at least. As the design has disseminated across the Concern and then into Union space more broadly, other pilots have taken to the De Payens for its raw strength and brawling effectiveness more than anything else - referring to the suite of muscle tracers, hyper-reflex enhancers, and lunge jets fitted to the chassis as the “HI” module, the equivalent of a “proper hello” to whichever unfortunate enemy is being crashed into at high velocity. Among IPS-N pilots, where the De Payens is perhaps most popular outside of the Baronies alongside other TrunkSec stalwarts like the Tortuga, Caliban, and Zheng, the De Payens’s method of engagement has earned another name: the “Karrakin handshake”.

Note: The De Payens will appear under IPS-N for mechanical purposes (core bonuses, et cetera).
